The Grand Canyon

In America every thing is big and the Grand Canyon is no exception.  There are no words to describe this fantastic work of nature and time.  And here in the Grand Canyon and other nearby sites (about 250,000 acres worth) you can grasp a bit about the amount of time (count in 100 of millions of years) that has passed to form these layers and the erosion that have formed great big gashes into the earth.  The whole geology of the place is absolutely gob-smacking wonderfully beautiful.  If awesome wasn't such an over used, watered down word, I would use that word too.

It was a road tour, and we (Rich, Tim, and I) didn't stop anywhere for very long in the six days we were travelling: I shall list the places we visited, and hopefully will have some photos on Picasa to show you a little of what I saw.

Mesa Verde National Park (Colorado): Tour of the Cliff Place.
Four Corners: where the States of New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado meet.
Grand Canyon National Park (Arizona): We took a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon. I was in the front seat.
Dead Horse Point: Utah State Park (Utah)
Canyonlands National Park: (Utah): we went to the Island in the sky area.

It was a lot to see and do, but we didn't encounter great crowds or traffic, it was all very pleasant from a crowd perspective.

This is a photo of me and Tim standing on the boundaries of four states: Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah.
